Medicines and pharmacy

Community pharmacy

In order to minimise infection and maximise efficiency with a reduced workforce, community pharmacy core hours are reduced to a minimum of 10am-12pm and 2-4pm (6pm if 100 hour pharmacy). Opening outside these hours will vary from pharmacy to pharmacy.

Pharmacies will close for up to 2½ hours within the day to carry out those essential tasks which cannot be done with members of the public on the premises.

Practices are advised to maintain repeat prescription durations and quantities to reduce the risk of stockpiling.

Practices may consider putting all suitable patients on electronic repeat dispensing and are advised to contact their medicines management team should they need support with this.

  • Where patients are unable to collect their medicines, they should contact the pharmacy to make other arrangements. Medicines will not automatically be delivered.
  • Arrangements if either a GP surgery or Community Pharmacy has to close completely.

Please remind patients to order medication in good time and allow more time for medication collection and note the adherence to social distancing when collecting.
